Book a mow

How it works

Most lawn care starts with a phone call and ends with a surprise. This is the whole process, written down, so there is nothing to be surprised by.

1. Your address picks the franchise

You never choose a contractor from a list. Enter your address and our territory system works out which WeMow franchise owns your street, then prices and schedules against that business specifically — their crew, their roster, their local rates within the national band.

If nobody covers your address yet, we say so immediately rather than taking a booking we cannot fulfil. You can leave your details and we will tell you when a franchise opens near you.

2. You describe the lawn, briefly

Approximate size, how long the grass is right now, and optionally two to four photos. That is deliberately short — we would rather ask four honest questions than twenty that make the form feel like a mortgage application.

Photos are optional but they help. They are what your local team looks at when confirming your price, and they are what stops a crew turning up to a surprise.

3. The price is calculated, not guessed

Your price comes from a national base rate for the service, adjusted for the size of your lawn, how overgrown it is, whether the section is flat or sloped, how hard it is to get equipment in, and any extras you have chosen. Recurring bookings carry a discount on every visit. There are no weekend or public-holiday surcharges.

Everything shown includes GST, because that is the number you actually pay.

Add-ons that say “from” mean it. Some extras are the same job on any property — a small hedge trim is defined as up to about ten metres. Others genuinely scale with the section, like taking the clippings away. Those are shown as “from” and firm up once you tell us the size.

4. You pick from real times

This is the part most booking systems fake. A grid of 9am, 10am, 11am buttons is easy to build and tells you nothing about whether anyone can actually come.

Ours works the other way around. For every day we look at who is rostered, what they already have booked, how long your job will take, the travel between stops, the buffer between jobs, and the daily hours limit — and we only show windows that survive all of that. Empty days are not hidden; they are just honestly empty.

5. Your local team confirms the price

Booking does not charge you. The booking goes to your local franchise, who check it against your description and photos.

  • If it is as described, they confirm and the price you saw is charged.
  • If it is genuinely different, they propose a new price with a reason. You accept or decline. Declining cancels the booking and costs you nothing.

Once your property has been serviced and verified once, later bookings for it skip the review step entirely and confirm straight away.

6. On the day

You get a notification when your crew is on the way. They photograph the lawn before starting, work through a checklist for the service you booked, photograph it again at the end, and mark the job complete. All of it lands on your booking in the app.

If they arrive and find something materially different from what was priced — the grass is twice as long as described, or there is a second lawn nobody mentioned — they stop and request a price change. The extra work does not happen until you have agreed to it.

7. Afterwards

You can rate the job, and a low rating opens a quality review with the franchise rather than disappearing into a report nobody reads. If you booked a recurring service, the next visit is already scheduled and you can skip, pause, reschedule or stop it whenever you like.

Common questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in New Zealand?

A standard mow starts at $45 including GST for a small, tidy lawn. What you actually pay depends on the size of your section, how long the grass is, whether it is flat or sloped, and how easy it is to get the gear in. You see the full price before you book — there is no quote to wait for on a standard mow.

When am I charged?

Not when you book. You see an estimated price, your local team confirms it against the lawn details and photos you gave us, and only a confirmed price is charged. If they think the job is different from what was described, they propose a new price and you accept or decline it. Declining costs you nothing.

Do I need to be home?

No. Most of our work happens while people are out. We need access to the lawn — an unlocked gate, or a gate code in your booking notes — and somewhere to park. You get a notification when the crew is on the way and before and after photos when they finish.

What if it rains?

Light rain is fine and we will usually mow through it. If conditions would damage your lawn or make the job unsafe, your local team moves the booking and tells you. You are not charged for a job that did not happen.

Can I book a regular mow?

Yes, and it is cheaper. Choose weekly, fortnightly, three-weekly, four-weekly or six-weekly when you book and the recurring discount applies to every visit. You can skip a visit, pause for a holiday, change how often we come, or stop altogether from the app at any time.

Who actually turns up?

A crew member from the WeMow franchise that covers your suburb — a local business, not a stranger from a marketplace. You get their first name before they arrive, and the same person wherever we can manage it on a recurring booking.
